Food License

FSSAI license is mandatory for all food businesses in India. Whether you run a restaurant, food processing unit, or even a small food stall, you need FSSAI registration.

License Types

Basic FSSAI registration suits small food businesses with turnover up to Rs. 12 lakhs. State FSSAI license applies to medium businesses with turnover up to Rs. 20 crores. Central FSSAI license is for large businesses exceeding Rs. 20 crores turnover.

Home-based food businesses must obtain FSSAI registration. Ecommerce food sellers, cloud kitchens, and food delivery platforms also require proper licensing. Display the license number on all food packages and premises.

Application Process

Apply online at fssai.gov.in or through FoSCoS portal. Fill Form A for registration or Form B for license depending on your business size. Submit required documents and pay the application fee.

Basic registration fee is Rs. 100 per year. State license fees range from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000 per year depending on turnover. Central license costs Rs. 7,500 per year.

Documents Required

Identity proof of food business operator is mandatory. Address proof of the business premises, photograph, and food safety management plan are required. For manufacturing units, layout plan and equipment list are additional requirements.

Compliance Requirements

Display FSSAI license number on food products and premises. Maintain records of raw material sources and finished product sales. Follow food safety standards and undergo periodic inspections as required.
